The 2024 F1 season was full of highs and lows for the reigning world champion Max Verstappen. Alongside the title, he was able to amass nine Grand Prix wins and while the sport is currently at a halt, he has taken the time to reveal the most frustrating race of last year.

Max Verstappen cut out as an extremely frustrated figure at several Grand Prix weekends. The RB20 was not up to the mark and it forced Verstappen to push himself to the limit to extract the maximum performance.

It was a super frustrating weekend. We arrived with a lot of updates, and they didn’t really do much in terms of pure performance. We couldn’t really extract it, and then the race itself also didn’t go well. Everything that could go wrong went wrong, and that was super frustrating.

Verstappen had an extremely torrid time during the Hungary race weekend. Moreover, during the closing stages of the race, he had a crash with Lewis Hamilton which forced him to end his outing in a disappointing fifth place. Following the contact, the 27-year-old’s RB20 even went flying into the air for a brief period.

A lot was made of this during that time and with the dust being long-settled, the 27-year-old has shed light on what went down in the internal discussions.

And definitely coming out of that weekend, we chatted a lot about it internally between everyone. And I think it was good because we said what was on our minds, and we moved forward from that and worked well together.

In the 2024 F1 season, Red Bull shockingly missed out on the constructors’ world championship. With 2025 being the last year of the ground-effect regulations, things could once again prove tough for them. Verstappen has a new teammate in the form of Liam Lawson and considering this, the onus will once again be on the former to steer the Austrian ship in the challenging waters of F1.
