Max Verstappen achieved a great outing at the Singapore GP after finishing in P2 despite some challenging circumstances on the circuit. The Dutchman started the race weekend on a positive note, more so after clinching a front-row start.
However, Mercedes’ George Russell was simply far too superior off the racing line and emerged victorious. Now, the 27-year-old pondered over why Lando Norris failed to fight for a better finish against him at the Marina Bay Circuit.
The circuit of the Singapore GP is believed to be one of the most difficult street circuits in the current calendar. As such, the drivers were bound to face some problems in overtaking and emerging victorious. Regardless, Max Verstappen had talked about his challenger performing much better in Singapore, which helped him achieve a P2 start for the race.
Throughout the race, Max Verstappen managed to hold onto his position and not taste defeat against Lando Norris. Verstappen was already feeling positive ahead of the race, but he was still unable to fight for the race win. Speaking on keeping Lando Norris at bay, the Dutchman reckoned that the racing conditions of the Marina Bay Circuit helped him finish in P2, despite the former looking stronger in pace.
Max Verstappen insisted that even if his car was really good, there wasn’t any more pace in it than depicted on Sunday. The 27-year-old further continued that he was unable to overtake on the track, regardless of the car’s performance. Verstappen pointed out that Lando Norris was running in a faster car, even faster than Red Bull, but he was still unable to overtake the former for the P2 finish.
Even if the car had been really good, there wasn’t more in it, because you simply can’t overtake here. You saw that with Lando, he was much faster than us, and he didn’t have a chance either.
Max Verstappen said in a post-race interview.
Max Verstappen reveals Red Bull ‘not good enough’ despite P2 finish
Red Bull’s performance after the summer break seems to be much better compared to their woeful start to the year. Max Verstappen managed to win two races consecutively and finished in P2 at the Singapore GP. As such, the Dutchman put forth his opinion on the team’s apparent resurgence in pace and performance as compared to the beginning of the season.

Max Verstappen reckoned that Red Bull’s pace and outing at the Singapore GP was much better in comparison to the previous years. However, the current pace was not good enough to help him join the championship leaders to battle for the drivers’ title this year. The 27-year-old continued that the team made some changes over the weekend, which did not work out in his favor during the race.
Better. But not good enough. We did have to make a few adjustments to the car over the weekend, and I think those ultimately had a negative impact, mainly for the race.
Max Verstappen noted.

The 2025 season now only has six races to go until completion. Max Verstappen has reduced the championship gap to the leader by six points and is currently 63 points adrift of the lead. Hence, it will be interesting to witness how the remainder of the season plays out for the reigning world champion. Time will tell if the four-time champion manages to score much better results following Red Bull’s pace turnaround.
