McLaren’s newfound dominance in the 2024 season has left the rivals in the dust, as they are unable to match their pace. However, the speed has made the teams wonder about the legality of the MCL-38 chassis. The rear wing of the car was found to be bending at high speeds at the Azerbaijan GP and forcing FIA to initiate an investigation in the matter.

Max Verstappen, who is fighting Lando Norris for the championship, wasn’t much worried about the entire process as he declared trust in the governing body over McLaren’s investigation. The Dutchman pointed out that everyone was ready with the footage while complaining against the team. Hence, Verstappen claimed this to be the ‘beauty of social media’ as a lot of discussion was made over the status quo.

I've seen the footage, that's the beautiful side of social media, right? Everyone has the video ready, and then, of course, a lot of discussion is made.
Max Verstappen told GPblog.com.

According to Max Verstappen was clearly moving at high speed giving an unfair advantage to McLaren. Additionally, Verstappen questioned if the move was smart or not depending on the final decision. Regardless, the rival teams must play the waiting game as the final call was up to FIA and penalize the team if found guilty.

It's quite clear that it's moving at speed. Smart or not, it's up to the FIA to decide if it's legal.

The Azerbaijan GP ‘wasn’t the first time’ that McLaren used the tricks

Multiple other racing events also witnessed a slight movement in the rear wing of the McLaren chassis. Max Verstappen pointed out this fact and claimed that it was important to come up with a clarification. He highlighted that movement at the front wing was also visible on the chassis. Hence, the rest of the grid must ‘wait and see’ the final ruling from the governing body.

Baku was not the first time that it was used. It's important to come with a clarification, not only on the rear wing, the front wing too, about what is allowed, how much is it allowed to bend? We just have to wait and see from our side.
Max Verstappen noted.

FIA had already cleared McLaren of any allegations during the previous version of the allegations. However, the governing body will have to look again into the matter and give a final decision. The remainder of the teams will adapt to Woking’s ways if the governing body allows the minuscule bend in the front and rear wings.
