Max Verstappen and Red Bull bounced back in Montreal after a difficult couple of races. The Austrian team has found itself caught up by rivals, Ferrari, McLaren, and even Mercedes. Nevertheless, Verstappen affirmed that he was going to push himself to the limit this weekend in Barcelona.

The three-time world champion recalled his fond memories from the Spanish GP. Max Verstappen won his first-ever F1 race at this track way back in 2016. The Dutch driver highlighted that Barcelona had a blend of high and low speed corners, with Red Bull historically performing well at this circuit.

I have great memories from the circuit, especially winning my first Formula 1 race there. It has a good mix of high and low-speed corners and we have historically driven well there.

Sergio Perez claims Spanish GP ‘feels like home’

In contrast to Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez had a dismal weekend in Montreal. The Mexican driver got knocked out in Q1 during Qualifying once again. Moreover, the 34-year-old ended up retiring from the race after a collision with Pierre Gasly in wet conditions.

Sergio Perez expressed his excitement for the Spanish GP. The Mexican driver claimed that the race felt like home with a welcoming crowd. Checo reckoned that he was well-versed with the Barcelona circuit and mentioned that the RB20 could be rather quick this weekend. Perez hoped that he and the team could get things right and bring in a solid result.

I always enjoy the Spanish GP, it feels a lot like home and everyone makes me feel so welcome. It’s a circuit I know very well and the RB20 should be quick around this type of track, so its down to us to get things right and bring home the result we know we are capable of.

Certainly, heading into the Spanish GP, Red Bull remain the favorites for the weekend. Max Verstappen’s stellar form would likely allow the Dutch driver to dominate the weekend if he can extract the pace out of the RB20. On the other hand, Sergio Perez must need to deliver a consistent weekend without any errors to silence critics.
