Lando Norris and Max Verstappen‘s enticing clash towards the end of the 2024 US GP peaked in racing action and excitement. Norris received a five-second penalty after Verstappen dive-bombed going into a particular turn. However, the Dutchman received a lot of backlash for the last straw move from him. The reigning world champion took a dig at FIA’s over-regulation of rules for the drivers while racing out on track.

Formula 1 and FIA have continued major rule changes to make racing safer while keeping it exciting. Max Verstappen interpreted the rules and regulations very well and could impressively defend against Lando Norris. However, speaking upon Norris’ penalty during the racing, Verstappen joked that he needed to keep the rule book in the car with him.

I need the rule book in the car!

Verstappen didn’t hesitate to claim that the sport was continuing to become ‘over-regulated’. Anyhow, he did understand the importance of such rules being imposed on the teams and drivers. The reason for this was if there were loose rules during an incident, people would demand more rules and stronger enforcement during various racing situations.

It is definitely over-regulated, but then I can see the other point of if we take rules away, and there’s again an incident.., oh, you need more rules! We need to be strong about this!

Max Verstappen claims ‘always the same story’ during such an incident in Formula 1

Max Verstappen has faced penalties due to his racing style on multiple occasions as his clash with Kimi Raikkonen in 2017 was similar to this situation. Hence, speaking of the situation, Verstappen believed that it was always the same story. Back when the sport had fewer rules, people demanded the governing body to stay strong and implement more rules.

It’s always the same thing. In the past, we have maybe less rules, and you have the same argument: You know, we need to be strong on this, on that. It’s always the same story.
