Max Verstappen has continued to score great results despite Red Bull’s struggling pace in recent races. The 26-year-old showcased consistent results during the practice sessions. Additionally, the reigning world champion had almost clinched the pole position for the Spanish GP. However, Lando Norris‘ exceptional lap saw him snatch the pole with just a 0.02s lead.

Max Verstappen had previously claimed that everything was right with Red Bull’s setup for the Spanish GP. Hence, the 26-year-old had great hopes for scoring the pole position for the main race. Verstappen highlighted that everything was coming together a bit nicer during the qualifying sessions. The practice sessions were comparatively more difficult for the Austrian constructor according to the Dutchman.

In qualifying it was all coming together a bit nicer, in the practice sessions it was a bit difficult.

Additionally, the 26-year-old pointed out that he got a nice tow from Sergio Perez towards the end of the Q3 session. Due to this, Verstappen was able to score a great lap which barely missed the pole position. However, despite extracting the maximum from the RB20, the result wasn’t enough. As a result, the Dutchman anticipates great action for the main race at the Spanish GP.

In Q3 I got a nice tow from Checo to extract everything but it wasn't enough. It is definitely all to play for tomorrow.

Max Verstappen claims it’s ‘good’ to see more teams fight for the pole position in F1

The competition has never looked any tighter than this ever since the beginning of the ground-effect era. Mercedes has started to pick the pace up and start scoring decent results in the qualifying and race sessions. Additionally, the racing field is bunching up in the forefront with multiple constructors. Hence, Verstappen believed that this was a great point for the sport.

Max Verstappen reckoned that scoring a pole position was never supposed to be easy in Formula 1 as one was in a battle with himself. However, the Dutchman further claimed that it was great for the sport to witness more teams in the battle for the pole position. Hence, the Spanish GP will showcase great racing action at the forefront.

At the end of the day they are never easy poles because you are in a battle with yourself, but it's good in general for F1 to have more teams in the fight.
Max Verstappen noted.

Red Bull will have to continue to extract maximum potential from the chassis to ensure a P1 finish tomorrow. Additionally, McLaren’s promising performance over the Spanish circuit has further increased competition. Woking will have to continue to ensure everything is of the top order to fend off against Milton Keynes in Barcelona.
