The F1 2024 season is back with the US GP, bringing its thrilling and fierce competition to Austin. Before the autumn break, Max Verstappen struggled at the Singapore GP, finishing P2 and trailing Lando Norris by 20 seconds. However, Red Bull appear to have made major improvements to the car, allowing Verstappen to secure pole position in the US GP sprint. The Dutchman expresses his happiness, feeling confident in the team’s progress.

Red Bull’s RB20 excels on high-speed circuits with long straights and fast corners. In the last race at Marina Bay, the tight, twisty street layout with numerous slow-speed corners limited the Milton Keynes team’s performance. However, the Circuit of the Americas in Austin suits their car better, giving them the opportunity to perform at their best.

I think we had a good day. Sprint qualifying is always very difficult, going medium-medium-soft. You never really know how much we can push. I’m happy with today.

Max Verstappen had faced a long wait since his last pole position at the Austrian Grand Prix. Albeit, the 27-year-old would also be looking to secure pole for the main race. For the past several races, Red Bull struggled to secure the top spot. However, at the recent sprint qualifying in Austin, they turned things around.

The Dutchman noted that the car’s handling was particularly good throughout the day, reflecting significant improvement. He expressed his happiness to be back in pole position, emphasizing how long it had been since he last achieved it. This return to form is a promising sign for Verstappen and the team as they look forward to reclaiming their constructors lead.

The whole day the car was working quite well, very happy to be first, it has been a while, so very pleased with today.

The Dutchman explained that their goal is to stick to the plan and make the car more drivable and good on tires for the sprints. While he acknowledged the Sprint race as an opportunity to perform well, he highlighted that the most points are awarded on Sunday, so it would be their primary focus.

Making the car driveable and good on the tyres in the race. That for us is the key. We’ll do the best we can tomorrow in the Sprint, but we also know of course the most points are available on Sunday.

Max Verstappen expressed.

Certainly, Max Verstappen is eager to defend his drivers’ standings and reclaim the Constructors’ lead. With just six races left in the season, he feels confident about achieving his goals. However, if the RB20 starts to misbehave like it did earlier in the season, his task will become challenging again.
