Max Verstappen and Red Bull are having one of their worst campaigns in recent years. The reigning world champion is even finding it difficult to make his way to the podium at the moment. Yet, Verstappen has made it clear that Milton Keynes cannot give up on this season just yet.

It was no secret that Red Bull was struggling since the start of this year. The energy drinks giant proved no match for McLaren in terms of pure pace, with Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris dominating the season. Though, Max Verstappen managed to pull off two stellar victories earlier this year courtesy of his on-track brilliance. Yet, this has not been enough as Verstappen continues to struggle in the last few races.

This raised doubts whether Red Bull might be better off giving up on 2025 entirely to focus on the upcoming season. 2026 will be a major technical shake-up in F1 and could reset the pecking order.

While Max Verstappen has stated that he is no longer in title contention this year, he still sees value in the current campaign. Verstappen insisted that there was still a lot more than can be learned from this year’s car, particularly on the engineering side.

There’s still a lot to learn also this year. And the car that has to be built for next year, of course, that is fully underway, but the engineering side of things, there is still a lot that we can learn this year.

Max Verstappen said, as quoted by RacingNews365

The four-time world champion made it clear that Red Bull cannot just ‘bin off’ this season due to the team’s failure to stay in the title race. Max Verstappen asserted that some learnings from this year can still be carried forward into 2026.

So, you cannot just say, ‘Okay, we’re not winning this year, the championship, so we just bin it off completely.’ Like I said before, there are always things that you can take from this year to next year.

Race Engineer GP defends ‘paddock villain’ Max Verstappen

Over the years, Max Verstappen has gained a reputation in the F1 paddock. The Dutch driver is seen as a blunt personality who is never afraid to speak his mind, no matter the consequences. Though, some have even perceived a negative image of the 27-year-old. Verstappen’s father Jos Verstappen reckoned that British fans don’t see the real side of the reigning world champion.

Now, the Red Bull star’s Race Engineer Gianpiero Lambiase has stated that Max Verstappen is often shown as the paddock villain in Formula 1. GP made it clear that this could not be further from the case, insisting that the 27-year-old was a very nice character and extremely kind. For Lambiase, Verstappen is a close friend, with the two having worked together for several years at Milton Keynes.

He is portrayed as the paddock villain, but off the track it’s the exact opposite: he’s a kind and sincere giant. Max is a very nice character and I consider him a dear friend.

Gianpiero Lambiase said on Behind The Charge

For Max Verstappen, what people say in the paddock does not matter. The four-time world simply wants to race and does not pay attention to outside chatter. This is one of the reasons millions of fans rally behind the Dutchman. The summer break will give Verstappen some much-needed time off from the sport, before the 27-year-old comes back in full force.
