Max Verstappen is facing stiff competition from Lando Norris and McLaren for the world title. The Woking-based squad has already surpassed Red Bull in the standings. Unfortunately, Verstappen was yet again outperformed by Norris this weekend at the Singapore GP.

The three-time world champion finished in second place, right behind Norris who took his third win of the season. Max Verstappen lost eight points to the British driver, bringing his lead to 52 points. Verstappen highlighted that Red Bull must keep trying to overturn the recent trend of losing points to McLaren.

We just need to keep on trying, and overturn it.

Max Verstappen hails P2 as a ‘good achievement’ for Red Bull

Verstappen started the Singapore GP from the front row behind Norris. The Dutch driver stayed in second place for the majority of the race, albeit he was undercut by Charles Leclerc after the round of pitstops. Max Verstappen claimed that finishing runners-up was a good achievement for the team considering that they expected Singapore to be a difficult weekend.

I think that is pretty much my race, on myself. Do the best I could, manage my own race. On a weekend we knew we were going to struggle, P2 is a good achievement.
Max Verstappen insisted

Certainly, Max Verstappen remains content with his performance in Marina Bay. The Dutch driver would be looking to build on this result and improve in the remaining six races. Verstappen retains a healthy lead in the standings which could allow him to defend his world title.
