McLaren has emerged as a real contender to Max Verstappen and Red Bull this season. The Woking-based squad has made stellar progress this season and arguably has the fastest car on the grid at the moment. However, despite such performance, the British team has only two wins under its belt with just ten races remaining.

Lando Norris was reckoned to be the one who could finally challenge Max Verstappen. The British driver even had a collision with the reigning world champion in Austria. However, Norris still trails far behind Verstappen in the standings. On the other hand, Oscar Piastri has not pushed the Dutch driver to the limit consistently.

Lando Norris and McLaren need to step up under pressure

Despite having the fastest car on the grid, results have not been in McLaren’s favor recently. The Woking based team falls behind even Mercedes when it comes to the number of victories. While Max Verstappen has won seven races alone.

Lando Norris has publicly accepted his mistakes and even claimed that he doesn’t have what it takes to win the title. This was a shocking statement coming from a driver in contention for the championship. As it seems that Norris might’ve already accepted his defeat against Max Verstappen.

McLaren needs to make Lando Norris feel more comfortable regarding the current situation and build his confidence. The Woking-based squad is yet to choose a number 1 driver in this title campaign. However, if the team continues to delay this decision, it could spark conflict between Norris and Piastri.

The Woking-based team has even made public statements against Red Bull recently which shows the pressure it is in. As such, it is time for McLaren to become more mature in this battle and learn how teams like Red Bull and Mercedes handle similar situations. Fans would hope to see a close contest between McLaren and Verstappen till the end of the season.
