McLaren are in the battle for the 2024 Constructors’ title against Scuderia Ferrari at the season finale in Abu Dhabi. The Woking-based team has a lead of 21 points. Now, Zak Brown has revealed that Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will be given new directions to follow on Sunday.

Norris secured pole position for the final race of the season. With Oscar Piastri locking out the front row for McLaren. Brown stated that the team will be working on creating a new set of Papaya rules to ensure that they win the title at Yas Marina. Previously, ‘Papaya rules’ allowed the two McLarens to race each other fairly.

We’ll come up with some rules overnight.

Zak Brown mentioned that both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri know what the situation is. The two drivers understand that the team must win the title. Subsequently, it is expected that both drivers will not exceed any limits against one another.

But the drivers obviously know exactly what’s going on. So I don’t think we’ll need to tell them anything. I think they know what the plan is.

McLaren refuses to rule out Ferrari despite Charles Leclerc grid drop

Charles Leclerc will start the race from P19 after a ten-place grid penalty. This is a severe blow to Ferrari’s chances of defeating McLaren. Nevertheless, Zak Brown declared that ruling out the Monegasque would be naive. As Leclerc remains one of the most formidable drivers on the grid. The other Ferrari of Carlos Sainz will start from third place.

He [Leclerc] had a bad day at the office, but he’s an awesome racing driver, and with safety cars and things of that nature, I don’t think we can rule anybody out. I think that would be naive

Zak Brown explained

Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will need to have a clean race in Abu Dhabi. If the two drivers win the 2024 title, it would be the first Constructors’ Championship for McLaren since 1998. Though, it remains to be seen how things pan out for the British team in the Grand Prix.
