The Las Vegas GP turned out to be nothing short of a nightmare for the McLarens as they suffered from their first-ever double DSQ in the 2025 season. Both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri walked out of the third and final American race weekend with zero points.
Norris lost massively in the championship standings as his deficit to Max Verstappen is now just 24 points. As such, the team shows class and apologizes to both drivers in a public statement on social media.
Lando Norris‘s pole position meant that he would have a great shot at victory at the Las Vegas GP. Though Norris had accepted way before that, he might not emerge as a winning force in Sin City. The Briton walked out of the race weekend with a point advantage of 42 points if it weren’t for the unfortunate double DSQ because of illegal plank wear.
McLaren refused to comment on the matter at the time but has since released a public statement on social media. Their public statement reads that they apologize to Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri both for the loss of points at the Las Vegas GP. The team accepted that the situation came at a very critical time in their championships, and the point-less weekend would definitely hurt their standings a lot.
Further, the team even apologized to the partners and fans who were definitely left shattered following the events that occurred at the Las Vegas GP. McLaren accepted that the outcome was very disappointing, but they did not lose sight of the primary goal. The Woking-based constructor asserted that their full focus remained on the final two races of the 2025 season and ending the season on a high.
We apologise to Lando and Oscar for the loss of points today, at a critical time in their championship campaigns after two strong performances from them all weekend, As a team, we also apologise to our partners and fans, whose support means so much. While this outcome is extremely disappointing, we remain fully focused on the last two races of the season.

Lando Norris claims the double DSQ is ‘frustrating’
Lando Norris certainly wouldn’t be too pleased with the unfortunate disqualification at the Las Vegas GP. The Briton pointed out that it was a frustrating end to the entire day for the team after a decent race session. Norris highlighted that the team had to do some managing in the car near the end of the session, which ultimately cost them their races.

Further, the championship leader insisted that it was frustrating to lose so many points at the end of the day. Regardless, Lando Norris reassured everyone that as a team, they were always trying to push as much as possible and achieve the best results. However, the Las Vegas outing was nothing short of a disappointment and truly a day to forget.
A frustrating end to today. We had to do some managing towards the end of the race and now we know it was due to some issues on our car, which have unfortunately resulted in us being disqualified, It’s frustrating to lose so many points. As a team, we’re always pushing to find as much performance as we can, and we clearly didn’t get that balance right today.

The 2025 season still has two races left until completion, and Lando Norris will give it his all in the final races. Although the 24-point lead will help the Briton greatly in the championship battle, anything can happen in the upcoming race weekends. Hence, time will tell which driver comes out on top and achieves the highly coveted title win in the final year of the ground-effect era.
