McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri both have lost out on massive points this year following multiple blunders from them. The most recent Azerbaijan GP was one to forget for the Woking-based constructor after Piastri DNF’ed in the race, with Norris finishing in only P7. Now that the driver’s title comes close between the Papaya Squad and Max Verstappen, Team Principal Andrea Stella gives a stern warning to the drivers.

Max Verstappen decreased the point deficit to the championship leader, Oscar Piastri, to 69 points following the stellar Azerbaijan GP win. Now, the Dutchman suddenly seems to be back in the mix for contending for the title down the season. Oscar Piastri made some rare blunders in Baku and walked out of the weekend with zero points.

Even Lando Norris seems to lose out on massive points on multiple occasions, especially after he couldn’t capitalize on Piastri’s mistake in Baku. As such, Andrea Stella believes that both McLaren drivers must keep their performance in check and not make such errors for the remainder of the season. With seven races to go, anything can happen in the final races, and Max Verstappen isn’t going to make their life any easier.

Andrea Stella insisted that while racing at the pinnacle of motorsport, competition was bound to be very tight, especially at the forefront. Stella added that the drivers simply couldn’t afford to make any errors. The Italian explained that there would always be a driver ready to pounce on one’s mistake and capitalize on it to the fullest.

When you race at the top of Formula 1 the competition is so tight, simply you cannot afford errors in any case. There will be your contenders that are ready to take advantage.

Red Bull has ‘found their way back’ against Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri

Red Bull’s start to the 2025 season was decent, especially with Max Verstappen winning two races early on. However, mid-way through the season, Milton Keynes lost on a massive performance and couldn’t return to their winning ways. However, Verstappen now seems to have found his rhythm again and started scoring impressive race wins. The Dutchman is already on a two-race win streak, with the possibility of continuing it further.

Andrea Stella recalled that before McLaren only worried about Mercedes’ pace in Canada, or Red Bull and Max Verstappen’s victories at the beginning of the year. However, now, Milton Keynes seems to have found their way back and slipped back to the top in terms of performance. Stella emphasized that, keeping in mind the driver’s title situation right now, the margin for error was even less now for Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.

Before this might have been Mercedes in Canada or Max at the start of the season. We don’t have to forget that Red Bull won two races at the start of the season and if anything, they slipped back in terms of performance. It now seems like they’ve found their way back. Considering the drivers’ championship, certainly the margin for error reduces further, but this is always the ethos when you race in Formula 1.

Andrea Stella noted

The 2025 season has shaped up into an extremely interesting and exciting one, especially since the season finale draws closer. Max Verstappen is certainly performing at the pinnacle of his career, which is all the more problematic for Norris and Piastri. However, a lead of 69 points is good enough for the Aussie, and he just has to keep up with the consistency and ensure that no errors creep up in his performances.
