The Mercedes Formula 1 team did not have the best of outings at the 2024 United States Grand Prix. Lewis Hamiton came away with a DNF whereas George Russell was able to muscle his way up to P6 after starting from the south end of the grid.
Following Lewis Hamilton‘s DNF, Mercedes lost out on a major chunk of championship points. In light of this, team boss Toto Wolff has asserted that they are looking to make a strong statement at this week’s Mexican GP.
However, it will not be easy keeping in view the unpredictable nature of the W15.
Wolff via his comments, has emphasized consistency to be the key deciding factor in Mercedes’ prospects in the remaining races. He believes there is performance in the W15 and it is all about extracting it regularly.
Mercedes focused on performance to ‘set themselves up for 2025’
While Toto Wolff has stressed the need for a solid outing at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez racing circuit, he also feels the performances in the remaining races will also help for next year. The W16 is expected to be an evolution of the 2024 challenger.
The Brackley-based is not in the running for the 2024 Constructors Championship. They are in a bit of a no-mans-land with no pressure from the Aston Martin F1 team who are in P5. Mercedes is pretty much assured of a fourth-place finish.
Keeping this in view, Wolff and Co. can go gung-ho in terms of trying new things on the W15 to help with the 2025 challenger. Moreover, if they get things right in one or two of the upcoming races, it will immensely help Hamilton and George Russell to challenge for victories.
