Hamilton didn’t reveal the exact reason or his plans regarding the move. However, the author of Mercedes’s new book Matt Whyman revealed the underlying reason behind the shocking switch.
Retiring from Formula 1 as a Ferrari driver is a massive feat that a majority of the drivers dream about. Lewis Hamilton received this opportunity and pounced on it. Matt Whyman pointed out that Hamilton believed that every kid involved in motor racing dreams of racing with a Ferrari. Moreover, Hamilton didn’t want to retire from the sport and look back and question himself ‘what if’.
Whyman further talked highly about Hamilton’s goals and ambitions following his exit from the sport. The Author reckoned that the Briton had clearly planned out his exit from Formula 1 after being satisfied with Ferrari. Additionally, winning all the races with Brackley and participating with them for so long was very meaningful for the seven-time world champion.
Lewis Hamilton reportedly took the Mercedes crew to ply paintball for better bonding
Lewis Hamilton is very close to the Mercedes crew, especially Toto Wolff and his race engineer Peter Bono Bonnington. Matt Whyman revealed that the team meant a great deal to Hamilton after racing together for so long. As a result, the Briton took the team to play paintball together as a pre-season bonding experience and enjoyed some time off.
Due to all these conditions, leaving Mercedes at the end of the 2024 season would be an extremely emotional affair for Hamilton. The team has also already planned a mega farewell for the Ferrari-bound driver this season. Hence, the 39-year-old now only has three more races as a Silver Arrow before ending his career with the German carmaker forever.
