The Mercedes F1 team has finally shed some light on the vacant seat in the team for the 2025 season with the departure of Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari. There have been constant rumors about who is seemingly fit for the seat, with drivers Andrea Kimi Antonelli and Mick Schumacher being the most frequent names to have appeared.
Toto Wolff and co. face a huge uphill battle in finding a worthy replacement for the seven-time world championship, Lewis Hamilton, who has been with the team since 2013. With the current course of Mercedes’s performance, they face a set of challenges within themselves if they wish to get back to winning ways.
Earlier this season, rumors flung out about a test in Silverstone between Mercedes reserve driver, Mick Schumacher, and Prema F2 racing sensation, Andrea Kimi Antonelli. However, the Brackley-based team has clarified these events, clearing out all sorts of rumors that built up within the media.
Our most recent TPC test (Testing of Previous Car) in Silverstone included, Mick, Kimi and George. It was incorrectly labelled a 'shootout', which was neither the intention nor the findings of the running. It's important to understand that each driver completed different programmes, on different days, in different track and weather conditions. Unfortunately, unverified speculation has led to conclusions and comparisons being published that do not reflect what happened.Mercedes Spokesperson said to RacingNews365
The German team has set the record straight for the tests of Kimi Antonelli, Schumacher, and George Russell, saying that the three drivers tested on different days in different conditions with no correlation to each other. Mercedes continues their search for the driver vacancy with impressive prospects across the grid.
Toto Wolff speaks on his future amid ongoing struggles with Mercedes
Mercedes Team Principal, Toto Wolff has spoken on his future with the team, given the current performance woes. Wolff has been an immensely crucial part of the outfit since 2013.
I still love it. Maybe one day I wake up and I don’t love it. There might be a stone falling on my head and I am not team principal anymore. But this is the destiny I am choosing with my co-shareholders. I have signed a new three-year contract and I am going to be the most permanent unless I die, but maybe in various roles in the top management.Toto Wolff said in an interview with PA news agency.
Wolff has assured of his will to continue at Mercedes, if not as the team principal but surely in a role in the top management. He further stated that he would honor the faith of his co-shareholders and adhere wholly to the new contract he signed recently.
Mercedes is currently struggling to bring points and podiums on board but is determined to work to resolve these issues. With the guidance of Wolff and the cooperation of the team, Mercedes possesses the skills to get to the very top once again.
