Michael Schumacher is considered by most as the greatest driver in the history of racing. The German driver won seven world titles and dominated the sport for the half a decade. Unfortunately, his son, Mick Schumacher failed to make such a mark in F1.
Mick Schumacher made his F1 debut in 2021 with Haas after winning the Formula 2 title. However, after two rough seasons with the American team, Schumacher was sacked in favor of a returning Nico Hulkenberg.
Since then, the 25-year-old has been forced to sit on the sidelines, with no real chances of a seat in sight. As such, it might be time for Mick Schumacher to accept that his road to the pinnacle of motorsport has been closed for good.
No F1 team willing to sign Mick Schumacher
After being ousted from Haas, Mick Schumacher shifted to a reserve role at Mercedes and even joined Alpine’s Hypercar program. Some believed that this would allow the German to stay close to the F1 paddock if an opportunity came.
Lewis Hamilton announced his shock move to Ferrari earlier this year, leaving a vacant seat at Mercedes. However, Toto Wolff has decided to take a bet on 18-year-old Kimi Antonelli instead of bringing in Mick Schumacher.
A similar story has happened at Alpine. The French team parted ways with Esteban Ocon and have signed rookie Jack Doohan instead of potentially getting Schumacher. Moreover, even Williams took the gamble of promoting Franco Colapinto for the remainder of the 2024 season. Although, Wolff did hit out at James Vowles remarks regarding Mick Schumacher.
It seems that Schumacher is not on any team’s radar in Formula 1 anymore. Teams are willing to risk on rookie drivers instead of taking a gamble on the German. Mick Schumacher’s stint at Haas has been disastrous for his career. Now, it seems that the former F2 winner could be forced to abandon his dream to replicate his father’s success in the pinnacle of motorsport.
