The Singapore GP turned out to be the biggest spectacle of this season–and to witness it, former Ferrari boss Jean Todt was present. While most fans had pegged Red Bull to take away all the victories from the races of this season, some were sure that one of the Mercedes or Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin would break their streak. But finally, Ferrari stepped up to achieve this task that seemed almost impossible, given Max Verstappen‘s prowess, as their driver Carlos Sainz has a resounding victory at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
Jean Todt is the former Team Principal of Ferrari who nurtured the talent of Michael Schumacher, who went on to win seven World Championships for the Maranello outfit. He went on to become the President of the FIA, and he stepped away from the role in 2021 when Mohammed Ben Sulayem succeeded him. Todt has been in a relationship with Michelle Yeoh of ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ fame since 2004.
Earlier this year, at the Academy Awards Ceremony, Michelle Yeoh won the Best Actress title for her role in ‘Everything, Everywhere, All At Once’. Soon after that, it was announced by Felipe Massa in a surprising tweet that Yeoh and Todt have tied the knot in a personal ceremony on July 28, 2023. And the couple visited the Singapore GP where Jean Todt turned out to be a lucky charm for his former team as Ferrari racer Carlos Sainz attained a resounding victory at one of the toughest circuits in F1.
Carlos Sainz had predicted his Formula 1 race win in 2023 long before it happened
Carlos Sainz’s ambitious has come through at a time when Max Verstappen was winning race after race in Formula 1. The Dutch racer had broken Sebastian Vettel’s record by winning ten Grands Prix in a row, but his streak came to a standstill in Singapore. And long ago, Carlos had predicted that Red Bull would be weak at one of the circuits at one point in time. The Spaniard had said, “I don’t fully believe that Max is going to win every weekend.”
Sainz had also said, “There is still a probability that Ferrari can win a race this season and that I can be there to win it. No one is perfect and hopefully at some point during the season, Red Bull make a mistake and I go into every weekend thinking that I need to be there to grab it.“
Carlos Sainz has delivered upon his promises by becoming the first non-Red Bull driver to clinch victory at one of the 2023 races. In the upcoming days, the challenge will become much more difficult as Red Bull will want to recover from their slump with a win at the Japanese GP while Mercedes will want to take advantage of another Grand Prix where Red Bull can falter. It is to be seen which team among the fabled top three–Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari–successfully secure a win at Suzuka next week.
