Lewis Hamilton with Grid Girls
Grid girls at a point of time were one of the glamours that F1 used to showcase in every grand prix. After facing some criticism and a change of ownership, Liberty Media had decided to ban grid girls wherever possible. However, Monaco being the Jewel of the Crown called Formula 1, they did something that made Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton electrified about the whole weekend which was shown on his social media page.
This incident happened a few years back on the verge of the 2018 Monaco Grand Prix. This is the most important race of the year and is one that every driver has first on his list to win. Lewis Hamilton was a four time world champion at that time. The amount of wealth and stature in the small country is immense. This is the race that people pay extravagant amounts of money to watch. The luxury around the whole event makes it a perfect spot for VIP’s and that is why Monaco has a lot of jurisdiction and control over how they want to tackle the race weekend.
When Liberty media was out there trying to ban the grid girl’s practice on any track possible, Monaco made the controversial decision to bring back grid girls. This decision however got a positive response from the drivers which included Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton. The Mercedes driver further went on to post a story about the news applauding the return of the grid girls.

“Elegant Grand Prix,” Lewis Hamilton’s comment on the return of grid girls for Monaco
Lewis further went on to give his thoughts in an interview. “I think women are the most beautiful things in the world. There have been races where we’ve had guys standing at the front, by the car, there’s been a mixture sometimes in the past,” he said.
“I think this weekend here in Monaco is a very elegant Grand Prix and I don’t know how women feel about it, I’ve not really ever spoken to them about how they feel about the situation so…,” he added
“I can’t particularly comment, I don’t particularly feel any way about it. But when we pull up at the grid and there’s a beautiful woman on the grid, that’s the Monaco Grand Prix! And it’s a lovely thing,” he continued.
Is was no doubt that Lewis Hamilton was a different breed back then but he seems to have dialled it down and matured to a stage where he doesn’t make jokes like this anymore. Although it was fun to see that side of Lewis back then as his stories always used to be hilarious. It also brings out the topic of grid girls and whether they should be in F1 or not.
