Christian Horner and Red Bull have yet again found itself in a war of words with Toto Wolff after FIA’s bring in a raft of measures in an updated technical directive. The last one was issued when Mercedes went running to the governing body after Lewis Hamilton’s back injury at the Azerbaijan GP. Therefore it became FIA’s duty to ensure that all the drivers were safe in these new generation cars.

Porpoising is something that has been a thorn in every team’s flesh, except Red Bull, from the start of it. The Milton Keynes outfit have done an incredible job with the development of RB-18 giving both Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez that cutting edge.

But after a brief research and analysis, FIA has confirmed that there are teams which are flexing the underfloor beyond the limit permitted and Red Bull is speculated to be one of them. This extra flexing gives that performance boost to the teams exploiting this grey area. Toto had indirectly targeted Red Bull for misusing this rule after FIA issued a new technical directive and said that Mercedes is not doing any of it and this will close the gap to Red Bull in the coming races.

Christian Horner was having none of it as he has immediately struck back at his counterpart. He said, “The technical directive is obviously focused on the bouncing or porpoising which only certain cars have struggled with. It is due for further discussion in the technical working group which is the correct forum for it.”

“As we saw at Silverstone, no cars were really affected by it so the argument being: Is it the duty of the competitor of ensuring the car is safe or is it the duty of the FIA to ensure that a competitor runs their car safely?”

Total rubbish! I think we are getting issues mixed up here.” Answering questions about if he was concerned about Red Bull’s floor, he said, “No. Zero. Maybe he is referring to cars around him, I have no idea. But absolutely zero issues or concern on our floor.”

We have seen these two adversaries have a go at each other regularly for even the slightest of issues and this is nothing else. We’ll have to see who comes out on top but for now, it’s Red Bull on top.
