Red Bull had a stupendous season in 2023, with 21 wins out of 22 races across the season. The campaign that won the team both Constructors’ and Drivers’ Championships was led by Max Verstappen, who managed a record-breaking 575 points.
The chief technical officer for Red Bull Adrian Newey, who was instrumental in the team’s success, commended Verstappen’s performance. Newey appreciated the Dutchman’s ability and self-awareness driving the car, likening him to one of the greats.
Adrian Newey said, as reported by motorsport.comI think Max, like all the truly great drivers, you have the impression that he can drive the car almost sub-consciously.
Red Bull recently refuted Christian Horner himself, when the team principal claimed that Red Bull would fare well without Newey. Newey’s wife corroborated this, highlighting Newey’s importance.
Adrian Newey chosen above Max Verstappen by Guenther Steiner
Guenther Steiner was recently asked in an interview with the Athletic who he would bring to his team given that he could sign anyone for free. The Haas team principal surprisingly picked Adrian Newey over world champion Max Verstappen.
Steiner justified his choice, claiming that Newey could design Haas a championship-winning car. Meanwhile Verstappen, even with his generational talent, would not be able to display it without the right car, such as the Haas.
I will take Adrian Newey because I’m sure he can make a car which can win. Even if you take Max [Verstappen] with our car, we wouldn’t win.
Newey’s contribution to Red Bull is significant, as the British engineer was a pivotal role in winning seven drivers’ championships. Newey’s wife recently underlined Newey’s importance to the team, claiming Red Bull would not perform as well without him.
