“Almost every weekend is a pleasure”: Helmut Marko relishes every moment of the Ferrari-Red Bull rivalry

Only a few weeks ago, Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner admitted that he is relieved to find Ferrari still struggling with their tactics as he does not want the Maranello outfit to catch up with Red Bull and let the Championship battle drag on till the very end of the season, like it did last year. The Briton heaved a sigh of relief when Red Bull established a huge point gap between themselves and their closest competitor–Scuderia Ferrari–so that the Championship battle would not be as fierce as the all-consuming contest between Red Bull and Mercedes that went down last year.

Contrary to what Christian Horner said, there is one Red Bull executive, who is happily lapping up all the excitement and thrill that has come with the title race between Red Bull and Ferrari. And that is none other than the Chief Advisor of the Milton-Keynnes-based team, Dr. Helmut Marko. According to the Austrian F1 veteran, the weekends are going really well for him as he sees his own team win at almost every race and it gives him immense “pleasure” to see Red Bull having the upper hand on Ferrari in the World Championship battle.

Dr. Helmut Marko has been with Formula 1 for decades and he has been having fun now that his team, Red Bull, is getting engaged in roiling Championship battles in almost every race throughout the last two seasons. While it was Mercedes up against Red Bull last year, this year, it is Ferrari. And to add to Marko’s happiness, Red Bull seems to be having a much easier time at the top of the Championship table this year than what it went through in 2021 as the title battle dragged on till the very end of the season.

Speaking of his experience, Helmut Marko said, “It has rarely been so much fun. Almost every weekend is a pleasure, very different from last season, when everything was nerve-wracking.”

He also said, “It’s just a bit of a shame that Ferrari makes so many mistakes. They’re beaten below their value, we really feel sorry for them. But once again: They’ll be back, they have such a powerful car.”
