It has come to light that Andretti Cadillac has appointed the former Renault F1 technical director, Nick Chester in order to look after the formation of a future F1 Andretti project, should they get F1’s approval to enter the sport by the 2026 season. Andretti and General Motors, in recent times, have been doing their best in order to agree on a deal with F1 in the same regard.

It is believed that Nick Chester joined the American outfit this week after ending his ties with McLaren’s Formula E team which was formed from the Championship winning Mercedes EQ team. They won a decent number of accolades during the last two years competing in Formula E. Moreover, it has also come to light that Chester’s position on the papaya team has now been taken by ex-Ferrari F1 engineer Chris Dyer.

As things stand, there is a lot of uncertainty as to what Nick Chester is doing, but the common consensus is that he is currently in the UK and is giving his time at Andretti’s UK headquarters in Banbury, with the sole aim of debuting in the 2026 F1 season, should Andretti Cadillac manage to get an entry by the hierarchy of the pinnacle of motor racing.

Nick Chester has a wealth of experience working in the motorsports business and his appointment by Andretti Cadillac shows, how serious they are regarding entering F1 in 2026. They are putting a well-formed plan in place to get what they want and it is going to be fascinating to see how the whole saga is going to further develop in the upcoming months.

While Nick Chester is a renowned name, his former boss at McLaren while talking about him recently said, “He had a huge amount of experience, and that goes for Chris, as well actually. I think that’s one thing in the role, it’s absolutely crucial. Nick also brought a very calming influence on the team. On the whole, I think he’s just got a great approach to be able to take on some fairly meaty challenges.

But at the same time, do not let that be in any way, shape or form overwhelming to the team. He’s great at bringing everybody along with him on that journey as well. So, during his time with us, he was a real asset and somebody that I enjoyed working with immensely.” Looking at his former boss’s comments, it seems that Chester is a really good appointment on part of the Andretti Cadillac group.

The 2026 season of the sport is quite far away at the moment, and until then, a lot of ups and downs are expected to come in the Andretti Cadillac’s road to F1. However, despite the challenges, the group is doing everything in its power to get a deal over the line. Considering everything that has happened so far in Andretti’s attempt of finding a spot on the 2026 F1 grid, would they really be able to get a deal over the line?
