Aston Martin admit they do not assume their car has “more pace than previously” after double-point finish in Imola

Ever since Aston Martin signed four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel to join their team, they have been promising great results for their fans. But in 2021, the team did not deliver as well as many motorsport enthusiasts thought they would, earning the 7th spot in the Constructors’ Championship standings with only 77 points, behind their midfield rivals Alpha Tauri and Alpine.

But going into 2022, Aston Martin showed promise with the unveiling of their new car–the AMR22. The team is now headed by Mike Krack, who joined as the Team Boss after their former Team Principal Otmar Szafnauer resigned from his position to join rival team Alpine before the new season of Formula 1 had even started.

Aston Martin opened their scorebook with the twin top-10 finish in Imola as the team had a disastrous result in the first three races of the season. Aston Martin recruit Sebastian Vettel missed out on the opening race in Bahrain and the race in Jeddah as well, because of his COVID-19 diagnosis. Nico Hulkenberg chipped in as the replacement for Vettel, but he could not get into the points. In the Imola Grand Prix, Aston Martin showed a great performance as both Vettel and Stroll scored points finishes–and the team now stands at the 9th position in the Championship standings.

Aston Martin had an abysmal start to the all-new 2022 season with no points in their book in the first three races. But during the first Sprint weekend of the season in Imola, both the drivers felt quite confident about their race pace and they ended up with points finishes in the Main Race on Sunday. Sebastian Vettel scored 4 points for coming 8th while Lance Stroll achieved the 10th spot in the standings.

Speaking about their performance in the Imola Grand Prix, Aston Martin Boss Mike Krack said, “We’re happy, obviously, because we managed in difficult conditions on Friday and today to bring the car back in a better shape than it is by pace.

He further said, “So I think the drivers and the team did a very good job there, in timing the stops right, in putting into action what we have learned yesterday from dry running. I don’t think that there is more pace in the car than previously.
