The British team defied expectations at the start of the 2023 F1 season. Fernando Alonso achieved multiple podiums in the first few rounds of the year. Aston Martin proving itself to be the second-best behind Red Bull. However, things have not been so well for the Silverstone-based team in recent rounds, with rivals surpassing its performance.

Mercedes have already overtaken Aston Martin in the Constructors’ standings, with Ferrari not far behind. Alonso has reaffirmed that the team is working extensively on getting back on track. Although, it seems that there is a lot of work left to be done by Lawrence Stroll‘s squad if it truly wants to succeed in F1. This, in turn, justifies its poaching from the big teams.

Thus, Aston Martin has gotten another senior figure from Red Bull. The Silverstone-based team has been on the hunt for key talents in recent years and has bagged some big names. The addition of Thijs Van Rees further solidifies the team’s technical structure as the British team tries to challenge for the F1 world title in the coming years.
