Fernando Alonso brought home a terrific result for Aston Martin at the Brazilian GP. The Spanish driver managed to keep Red Bull’s Sergio Perez at bay in the last few laps of the race to take up the final spot on the podium. Now. Aston Martin Team Principal Mike Krack has applauded the efforts of the two-time world champion.

Krack admitted that the battle between Alonso and Perez was exciting. The Aston Martin boss believed that the fight only got more interesting as the two drivers went onto the final lap of the race. Mike Krack pointed out that Fernando Alonso used some irregular racing lines while going wheel-to-wheel with Perez.

It was an interesting fight in the last couple of laps. Obviously, the closer you go to the end of the race, the more exciting it gets… it was an interesting fight. You could see that we took some lines that were maybe a bit unconventional, let’s say.

Mike Krack said as reported by Motorsport.com

Although, the Aston Martin boss mentioned that Red Bull had given similar instructions to Perez as well. Krack reckoned that teams and drivers had to use some peculiar dynamics to manage tire wear over the course of the Grand Prix. This in turn allowed drivers to extract the most pace out of the car while making an overtake.

But Sergio behind was told to do the same, interestingly. So basically, you could really see the interesting dynamics that develop there - everybody tried to manage his tyres to be strong in the parts where you can overtake.
