Fernando Alonso, before his 2021 Formula 1 comeback, was already revered to be one of the greatest drivers in the history of the World Championship. The Spaniard had changed the trajectory of the entire sport in 2005, when he beat the dominant Michael Schumacher as he ended the German driver’s brilliant streak of Championship wins with the fabled Ferrari. Alonso safely defended his title in 2006 as he became a two-time World Champion with Renault.

Back in 2006, Alonso was cited as the driver to dominate Formula 1 in the years to come. The driver decided to move to the famous McLaren team in 2007 to attempt to win a third consecutive title and was slated to be the title favorite ahead of the opening round of the 2007 season. However, he lost the title to Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen and was bested by Nando’s rookie teammate Lewis Hamilton. The years that followed were extremely unlucky for Alonso as the Spaniard kept moving from one team to the other and kept narrowly missing out on the elusive Third title.

Winning is the fuel that an athlete needs to continue competing, and now the priority is to win in Formula 1 and try to achieve that third title.
Fernando Alonso said, as reported by SoyMotor.

It is great to see Alonso aim for the absolute peak of Motorsport legend at the age of 42. Several fans and pundits agree that the Spaniard, rightly, deserves the Third title. It will be interesting to see if Alonso can join Jack Brabham, Giuseppe Farina, and the legendary Juan Manuel Fangio in winning a Formula 1 title in his 40s.

Fernando Alonso still wishes for a World Championship with Ferrari

Fernando Alonso reflected on his time with Ferrari in a recent podcast, expressing his untamed desire to secure a World Championship with the Italian team. When asked about changes he would make in his career if he could go back in time, Alonso took a moment to respond and later revealed that winning a championship with Ferrari would be his top priority if he had the chance to revisit his illustrious career.

Alonso recalled the closely contested seasons of 2010 and 2012, where he came extremely close to clinching the World Championship, missing out only in the final laps of the entire season to Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel. Despite the near misses, Alonso revealed that he still cherishes his time with Ferrari. The partnership spanned five seasons from 2010 to 2014. Alonso’s legacy at Ferrari includes 11 Grand Prix victories for the iconic team.

The two-time World Champion, with a career spanning over two decades, has left an indelible mark on Formula 1, securing victories for three different teams – Renault, McLaren, and Ferrari. His dream of delivering a championship to Ferrari aligns with the aspirations of many other iconic F1 drivers, however, the Prancing Horse has continued to fall short of Formula 1’s most rewarding feeling, of winning the World title, since 2007, which still stands as the Italian team’s latest triumph.
