Max Verstappen took the first pole position of the 2023 season-opener at the Bahrain International Circuit. It was a thrilling performance, and Verstappen beat his teammate Sergio Perez by 0.138s. This is the dutchman’s 21st pole position in his career. His Q3 lap time was 1m 29.708s. Red Bull locked the first row of the grid.
Ferrari occupied the second row. Charles Leclerc finished third despite missing the final laps of Q3. The news is that he is saving the tires for the race. His teammate Carlos Sainz finished right behind him and took fourth place. The Ferrari drivers are on a strategy. Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso finished P5 separating Ferrari and Mercedes. George Russell and Lewis Hamilton completed their run and finished P6 and P7, respectively.
Max Verstappen, the man of the moment, was glowing. He got another pole position on his father, Jos Verstappen’s 51st birthday. Talk about the perfect gift. After the intense qualifying, Verstappen stated, “It’s been a bit of a tough start to the weekend yesterday and today not really finding my rhythm. Having such a strong car with Checo up there as well, it’s amazing and I am looking forward to tomorrow.”
Max Verstappen bagged his 21st pole position

“I think compared to last year everyone knows a bit more about what they are doing. The changes slowed down the car a bit but of course, we are still going faster. I was actually positively surprised to be on the pole after the struggles I had in practice. Normally our race car is better, so let’s see.”
The Dutchman is more confident than ever to get his maiden win at the Bahrain Grand Prix. It is one important track he has not conquered yet. He looked happy and satisfied with his performance. It seems the 25-year-old has found his rhythm after all after his troubled practice sessions. The reigning champion Max Verstappen will start the Bahrain Grand Prix on the pole.
The gap between the other teams is quite narrow. The teams held their breath during the first qualifying of the season, they were at the edge of their seat. Once Red Bull crossed the chequered flag, the garage was filled with happiness, and the team rejoiced. After all, their 2023 season has begun on the right foot, and this is just the beginning.
