‘Behind the scream, there was all my passion,’ Charles Leclerc reflects on the costly error in France
Charles Leclerc crashing in France
After having a blistering start to the year, everyone thought that Charles Leclerc and Ferrari will run away with the title after the Australian Grand Prix. The tifosi were finally happy that the team had a car which had the pace to win the races. Although it didn’t turn out to go exactly as planned for the Scuderia as a number of costly mistakes and reliability issues have led to the the team’s downfall throughout the season.
The French Grand Prix was a similar demonstration of the problems at Ferrari. After putting his car on pole position, everyone knew that Charles Leclerc had the pace to win on Sunday.
The Monegasque was comfortably in the lead of the race on Sunday and Max Verstappen had already pitted. On lap 18, the Monegasque lost the car and went into the barriers. While it seemed that he had not completely destroyed his car beyond repair, there was no way he could reverse the car.
What followed after that was an immensely loud “Noooooooo…..” that caught many fans by surprise but everyone could understand what Charles Leclerc was going through. Crashing out of a comfortable lead in the race wasn’t something that he hadn’t done before in this season which was all the more frustrating for the Ferrari driver. He further went on to explain the situation from his side.
“I thought the radio was off,” says Charles Leclerc
“He further explained the reason behind his deafening radio message. “Behind the scream in France, there was all my passion for this sport, which is my life,” he said.
“I thought the radio was off, and that it remained private, but it doesn’t matter now. Everyone has heard it,” he continued.
With Ferrari’s home race weekend underway along with a special celebration, there have been a lot of festivities going on. Although Charles Leclerc will be adamant to focus on the race more than anything as he needs to win every race in the remainder of the season if he aims to win the WDC which has seemed to be taken away from the Monegasque driver.
