Belgian Grand Prix sees massive growth in sales amidst rumors of Spa-Francorchamps not being on the F1 2023 calendar

The Spa-Francorchamps Circuit, home to the Belgian Grand Prix, is a favorite amongst all the Formula One fans and even the racers, because of the challenges that the sloping circuit poses with its thrilling corners like the Raidillon. While the races that take place at Spa are exciting for the audience, they are equally difficult for the drivers. In 2019, Anthoine Hubert died after succumbing to a terrible injury while driving in the Spa-Francorchamps Formula 2 round.

Only a few months ago, word went around the F1 town about the Belgian Grand Prix not making it to the F1 calendar for next year. With the mission of including newer circuits in the roster, rumors said that the FIA would have to cut Spa from the F1 schedule to make space for newer racing tracks. This was met with huge protests from fans and drivers alike, and 2009 World Champion Jenson Button even went on to say he would be “upset” if Spa disappeared from the F1 2023 calendar.

Fortunately, the FIA did keep the Belgian Grand Prix on the schedule for the next season of F1 Championship. And now, the reports of the ticket sales for the Spa race are a proof that it was a correct decision taken by the authorities to let the Belgian GP stay for 2023.

As the owners of the Formula One franchise, it is the Liberty Media’s wish to spread the word about the pinnacle of motorsports to the US and the countries in the Middle-East. For that, they have decided to include several new circuits in the F1 calendar, and to make space for the newcomers, the FIA have had to cut a few old circuits out. The French Grand Prix at the Circuit de Paul Ricard went under the axe, but Monaco and Belgium were spared.

Now, reports about the ticket sales for the Belgian Grand Prix have revealed that the Spa-Francorchamps authorities have sold half of the passes to the race already. The 2022 season is still going on, and the next season is months away, but regardless of these facts, the tickets for next year’s Belgian GP have been selling like hotcakes.

This comes as good news for the owners of the Spa-Francorchamps Circuit as they had invested millions to renovate the racetrack in recent years. Had the FIA pulled the Spa race from the 2023 calendar, the loss would have been insurmountable for them. But now, it seems that the decision to continue F1 Grands Prix in Belgium was a correct one as fans can hardly keep themselves away from witnessing races being held at Max Verstappen’s favorite circuit.
