Breaking: Aston Martin lands a $450,000 fine for misleading the FIA with wrong financial details

It is quite a happening day in F1 town today because the FIA have taken all the fans by surprise as they announced the penalties to be levied on the offending teams for breaching the cost cap according to their 2021 financial audits. While the authority held Red Bull directly responsible for going above the previously set expenditure limit in the last Championship season, Aston Martin had been reported for procedural breach.

As most fans are not familiar with how the procedural breach works, it must be said that Aston Martin has not actually gone over the cost cap in their spending. But, their financial report had apparently held some wrong facts which came to the light once the FIA examined it. Holding Lawrence Stroll’s team responsible for the incorrect details, the governing body of F1 has decided to give a $450,000 fine to them.

As per the reports, while Aston Martin’s offence in relation to the cost cap has not been as major as Red Bull’s breach by $2.2 million, there is substantial proof that they provided wrong numbers for 12 items in their report. The FIA stated that they had incorrectly excluded or adjusted the costs to some extent.

While breaching the cost cap, as seen in the case of Red Bull Racing, is a big offense, the FIA have also clarified that whichever team furnishes them with the wrong financial details would be held accountable as well. Giving the wrong accounts leaves chances for Aston Martin to have spent a bigger amount on several sectors than they admitted. And to examine that, the FIA conducted an audit of AMR’s expenditure and released a statement.

According to the statement by the authorities, “There is no accusation or evidence that AMR has sought at any time to act in bad faith, dishonesty or in a fraudulent manner.”

Thus, the FIA have announced a much smaller fine for Aston Martin than what the fans had guessed, considering how Red Bull was given a huge $7 million penalty. Aston Martin had reportedly given the wrong numbers for their expenditure on items like catering, tax credits, a new F1 simulator, etc.
