Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz had a flying start to his 2024 season, finishing just behind the dominant Red Bull’s with P3 in Bahrain. The Spaniard felt reportedly unwell throughout the first two practice sessions at Jeddah. Sainz was later diagnosed that night with Appendicitis and was replaced by F2 driver Oliver Bearman for the weekend.

Carlos Sainz is back in the paddock after two weeks of recovery just before the start of the Australian Grand Prix. The number 55 Ferrari driver was asked on Thursday about his fitness and prospects of racing this weekend. He pointed out that he is fit to race in the event but asserted that he will be the first one to take a step back if he experiences any discomfort.

First of all just by seeing me move and the exercises that I'm doing in the gym and everything this tells me I'm fit to jump in the car tomorrow and try, But obviously, I'm not stupid, and if I don't feel good tomorrow, I will be the first one to raise my hand and say that I need another two weeks until the next race.
Carlos Sainz speaking to the Media on Thursday morning in Australia.

Sainz seems confident about jumping in the car tomorrow for Free Practice 1 in order to assess his physical condition. Hopefully, the Spaniard has recovered well and can continue to showcase his racing acumen in order to obtain a competitive seat for 2025 and beyond now that he is getting replaced by Lewis Hamilton.

I have another check with the FIA tomorrow, and they are monitoring my progress. And I’m the first one that doesn’t want to be in pain, to suffer, or to make it any worse. So, I’m not stupid. And I will be very clear with how I’m feeling and everything.

Sainz seems to be in good spirits ahead of the race weekend. The driver hopefully has a smooth weekend in order to get back into the groove and continue his brilliant run of form since the season opener at Bahrain.
