Carlos Sainz has talked about the reality check his team received after the end of the Bahrain GP. The Spaniard finished fourth in the standings behind the two Red Bulls and Fernando Alonso’s Aston Martin. Moreover, Charles Leclerc, the other Ferrari driver, was not even able to finish the race because of a mechanical problem.

Carlos Sainz started the Bahrain GP from P4 and ran a pretty lonely race. After getting passed by Fernando Alonso, he was put under pressure by Lewis Hamilton but was able to keep hold of his position. However, he was not able to make much of an impression on the cars that were running ahead of him.

The two Red Bulls were never in range of Sainz during the race. After the race, the smooth operator was asked whether he was frustrated by not being able to challenge Red Bull. While responding, he added, “Not too much. I was actually surprised how long we were lasting in that position.”

He further added, “From the test, we knew that the Red Bulls and the Aston Martins just have a lot better deg [degredation – ie, how gently they are able to treat their tyres]. A lot better race pace than us. In the end, we had to settle for P4, which to be honest is not a lot better than we could have done today. It’s a bit of a reality check, it’s where we are.”

The 28-year-old has made it known that his team, after testing, was somewhat aware that Aston Martin and Red Bull were in a better position going into the first race of the 2023 F1 season. However, despite ending up in P4 in Bahrain, Saniz feels he could not have done any better in his machinery.

Carlos Sainz looking ahead at what’s coming, said, “[It’s] not ideal the reliability, but more than that it worries me the gap to Red Bull and the race pace of Aston, which at the moment is faster.. I don’t believe it will be like that at every race. But it shows that in these sorts of tracks where you need the rear, it costs us a lot of race time, a lot of work to do. We need to put our heads down, get the homework done and it’s only race one, so we still have a margin of improvement.”

Carlos Sainz has admitted that he is concerned about the performance gap between Ferrari to its rival. He has also admitted that all tracks have different demands, and on some of them, his team would be stronger. Moreover, he has indicated that Ferrari has got work to do but feels confident in his team’s capability. He takes solace in the fact that there are still 22 races left. Considering what Sainz has said about his team after race one, how do you see the Ferrari package performing in the upcoming races?
