The end of all the practice sessions and qualifying saw Max Verstappen missing out on the fastest lap again and again during the Monaco GP weekend, and Charles Leclerc was the one who proved out to be dominant, alongside his teammate, Carlos Sainz.

Red Bull were hoping for a pole finish for the Dutchman, but at the end he had to settle for P4 after Checo crashed in the second sector during the final minute of qualifying, bringing the session to an end. Team principal Christian Horner stated that Vertsappen was going “significantly faster” on that lap, and could have even scored pole. However, Leclerc already had a purple sector 1 on the same lap.

Verstappen was pretty much frustrated after this incident as he missed out a final flying lap chance, something similar that he faced in the Spanish GP when he had rear wing issues. He believed that if not pole, he would’ve set a better lap time. Max also admitted that Ferrari have got an undeniable pace, as they were also the most powerful on medium speed corners.

As mentioned, the Dutch did not expect to catch pole, but was hoping to make it to second place on the starting grid for a much better start. “It was very unfortunate as I think we could have done better than fourth,” GPBlog quoted Verstappen.

“Not pole position, because I think that Charles is too far ahead, but I think we could have at least got second place.”

Verstappen also stated that there are potential chances for rain during the race, as the forecasts suggest, and rains in Formula 1 bring a drastic change in the race, because of how competitive the cars get. Max is also known for his ruthless control and driving of the car during wet weather conditions.

Max Vertsappen and Charles Leclerc are the two championship contenders as of now, with the Dutch leading the championship with 110 points, a 6 point lead on the Monegasque, who follows him with 104 points.
