Charles Leclerc has not had an ideal start to the 2023 F1 season. The Monegasque driver has had several incidents hampered his points tally so far. Yet the 25-year-old secured a pole position at the Azerbaijan GP despite the rapid Red Bulls. Subsequently, as F1 heads to the streets of Monte Carlo, Leclerc looks to bag the pole again at the iconic Monaco GP.

The Monegasque driver acknowledged that Monaco is a track similar to the Baku street circuit with many low-speed corners. The Ferrari SF23 has managed to perform decently in such scenarios. Subsequently, Leclerc was hopeful of clinching pole position in the tight and challenging streets of Monte Carlo, where driver skill plays a pivotal role. He said, “Monaco is part of the circuits where risk-taking pays”.

Despite the rapid onset of Aston Martin and the unbeatable Red Bull cars, Charles is aiming to lap the fastest on Saturday at his home track. The 25-year-old understands the significance of Qualifying at this circuit because of the difficulty in overtaking. As such, the Monegasque will give his everything over one lap. Charles Leclerc stated, “I think that we have our card to play on Saturday.”

Leclerc had an underwhelming start to 2023. The 25-year-old incurred two DNFs in the first three rounds with only 6 points to his name in Saudi Arabia. The Azerbaijan GP brought some relief after the Monegasque driver followed on his pole position with a podium finish. Yet, Charles did not answer Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez regarding race pace.

The Miami GP was another bummer to the Monegasque after he crashed twice at the same corner. Once again, scoring 6 points. Leclerc currently sits at P7 with 34 points, ten less than teammate Carlos Sainz. Many have criticized the 25-year-old for his recent streak of errors. Though Ferrari has defended his driver so far.

Thus, Charles Leclerc insists that pole position might not be too far for the Monegasque driver at his home track. Leclerc has secured pole position in Monaco in the past but has never stood on the podium. As such, the 25-year-old would want to change this statistic this season and finally step on the podium in front of his home crowd.
