Charles Leclerc’s contract with Ferrari expires at the end of the 2024 Formula One season. The Monegasque driver has already been linked with a Mercedes move. There were whispers that Leclerc would replace the seven-time world champion, Lewis Hamilton. The Briton has not signed a new contract yet, fuelling rumors. Recently, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff also admitted that Leclerc is on Mercedes’ “long-term” radar.
Leo Turrini, an Italian Journalist, claimed last week that Wolff and Leclerc have been in talks over a future move. However, both have denied it. Leclerc stated there was “zero truth” in these rumors. The Ferrari driver mentioned that he is focused on his team. Leclerc is fully confident and trusts them. Hamilton and Wolff are yet to sign a new deal beyond 2023. The contract will in all probability be extended soon.
Toto Wolff stated, “Charles is a super guy and for the long-term future someone you have to have on your radar but not for the short and medium term.” The Austrian was reminded of Leclerc’s comments in Baku. The Monegasque driver revealed, “A move is not something on my mind.” So it is clear that Leclerc wants to continue with Ferrari and Hamilton with Mercedes. But a potential move in the future cannot be ruled out.

Wolff added, “I think nobody doubts Charles’ ability. He is a good guy. I think he’s 100% committed and loyal to Ferrari. And it’s his contract. And in the same way, we are 100% committed to putting pen to paper with Lewis.” Wolff ruled out approaching any time soon. The Mercedes boss is happy with his current driver’s lineup.
The 51-year-old explained that Hamilton is strong and driven. Wolff admitted that it does not look like the team will fight for the driver’s championship this season. Mercedes want to provide Hamilton with a car capable of winning World Championships. The team is motivated to achieve their goals. Wolff wants to bring a “winning package” so that Hamilton can get his eighth title.
Wolff spoke about his relationship with the Mercedes champion and he trusts Hamilton’s abilities. According to Wolff, their healthy relationship has been one of the strong pillars over the last ten years. At Baku, Hamilton was asked if the “Leclerc-Mercedes” rumors impacted his contract negotiations. But the former world champion was unbothered and said it did not have any impact.
