Carlos Sainz overtook Max Verstappen to get into the lead in Lap 2 of the Australian Grand Prix and went on to secure the race win in dominant fashion. The Spaniard’s charge was favored by the Red Bull racer’s retirement from the race due to brake issues in Albert Park. His Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc finished just behind him in P2.

After the race, during the driver’s press conference, Charles Leclerc was asked about Carlos Sainz‘s future and him being an underrated driver. The Monagasque rejected the claims as he believes his teammate is one of the most highly regarded drivers in the sport. He asserted that Sainz is a driver who must be on every team principal’s radar for 2025.

I think everybody knows carlos' worth and thats why i've said that im not too worried about his future and im sure many team principals ar- he doesn't say, for sure they are speaking with him.

Leclerc also added how there must be a ton of Team principles speaking to the Spaniard to acquire his services now that he is being replaced by Lewis Hamilton in 2025. Carlos Sainz definitely made a statement to the Formula 1 paddock with his win in Australia and his overall performances this season. The number 55’s future team will definitely be something that fans are waiting to hear about.

Charles Leclerc gives his verdict on Ferrari’s 1-2 finish at Australia

The result was truly unexpected with how dominant Red Bull is at the moment and it brought more joy as it was Ferrari’s first 1-2 finish since the opening race at Bahrain in 2022. After the race, Leclerc was asked to speak about his thoughts on the result. He spoke about how he commends teammate Carlos Sainz for his brilliant performance and how the result was very important and positive for the team.

It feels good, mostly for the team of course, First and second hasn't happened since Bahrain 2022, which are good memories that we have. It is amazing that we can do that. Carlos has had an incredible weekend to come back after his surgery, he has done an amazing race.
Charles Lelerc said.

Leclerc also added how he could’ve performed a bit better himself to maximize his personal result throughout the weekend. According to him, he made a few errors while managing his tires and will definitely work on improving it in the next few weeks before the race in Japan.
