Charles Leclerc urges Ferrari to pull up their socks: “We have to make sure these things don’t happen too much in a season”

Charles Leclerc
Charles Leclerc hasn’t had the kind of support that he expected from his team which would help him to win the championship. It’s been 5 consecutive races that the Monegasque driver has not been able to step on one of the steps of the podium despite his best efforts. That can be totally put down to Ferrari’s efforts and decision making off the track.
We saw a glimpse of that during the British GP, which costed him the race win. Charles Leclerc was leading the race with 10 odd laps to go when a safety a safety car was deployed after Esteban Ocon suffered from a technical issue, bringing his car to a halt in the middle of the track. This provided an opportunity to all the drivers to put on a fresh set of tyres for the final stint.
Unlike all the front runners, Charles Leclerc was not called in to switch to a fresher set of softs, leaving him vulnerable. It was pretty clear that he would need at least two laps to bring those old set of tyres to temperature before he can clock serious lap time. But that brief little period of 3 laps meant he was pushed off the podium for no fault of his own.
Charles Leclerc unhappy with his win-less streak in the last 5 races

In a season which has been completely dominated by Max Verstappen, this is something Charles Leclerc cannot afford. This has forced him to ask his team to pull up their game. He said, “We have to make sure these things don’t happen too much in a season.” “For me, the accumulation of the last 5 races is hard to take. We’ve had different issues, and so I haven’t even been on the podium in the last 5 races. It’s not easy.”
Talking about his boss after the British GP, he said, “He was angry at me because I was too down, and so he was trying to cheer me up, [and] everybody was wondering why he was putting the finger like this but I think he was just frustrated to see me so down after such a great race.”
“On the other hand, it’s obviously understandable, he understood my disappointment – leading the race and finishing fourth.”
Charles Leclerc has every right to have a go at his team for not being up to the mark but he also needs to keep his calm because we are not even halfway through this season and as we have seen, championship can flip on its head at any given point time.
