Charles Leclerc is an exciting talent in Formula 1. The Monegsque driver is often regarded as a potential world champion. Leclerc’s 2023 season has gone off to a poor start as the 25-year-old suffered a handful of crashes, including two on the same turn at the Miami GP. However, Ferrari driver coach Jock Clear has come to the defense of Charles.
The 59-year-old believed that these incidents were not the fault of the Monegasque driver. Instead, Clear mentioned that it was the result of Leclerc pushing the SF23 to its limit in a bid to match the dominant Red Bull. He said, “This maybe is a reflection of his mindset when he is up against a car that is demonstrably quicker than him. [Red Bull].”
Jock was convinced that Charles Leclerc was determined to make up the pace deficit by going as far as possible on the track. Unfortunately, the 59-year-old mentioned that physics always strikes back, and it has been no different for the Monegasque driver so far this season. Clear insisted that the 25-year-old tried his best to get his hands on Pole position in Miami.

Ferrari won’t ask Charles Leclerc to “calm down”
Despite the recent incidents, Jock Clear has clarified that the Scuderia will not ask the Monegasque driver to change his driving. He said, “We’re not going say to him: ‘Look, calm down, Charles’.” The 59-year-old appreciated Leclerc’s performances this season, with the 25-year-old clinching pole position at the Azerbaijan GP.
The rapid pace in Qualifying allows Charles to get a good opportunity in the races to maximize the points haul against Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez. Jock further insisted that the Monegasque driver pushed to the limits in Miami after the new upgrades for the weekend. However, the race ended up as a weekend to forget for the 25-year-old.
Thus, Jock Clear and Ferrari are confident that Charles Leclerc’s crashes are not exposing a problem in his driving.. Rather, the 25-year-old is keen on driving the SF23 to its limit in a bid to get the best result. Yet, the Monegasque driver will have to avoid such collisions in the upcoming rounds if he wants to solidify himself as the driver who can win the title with the Scuderia.
