Christian Horner alleges Mercedes of “bitching” over porpoising health troubles
Christian Horner
Red Bull team boss Christian Horner has alleged competitors of pressuring drivers to “bitch” about porpoising problems. Brackley-based racing team Mercedes, and particularly Lewis Hamilton, suffered all through the Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend, with the 7-time Formula One World Champion suffering from extreme back pain as a result of the fierceness with which his W13 bounced all around Baku City Circuit.
George Russell suggested that discussions about the long run of the current technical regulatory requirements be held because drivers will be unable to uphold sanctions for another four years. After the 51-lap race, Hamilton appeared to be in pain, and team boss Toto Wolff warned him that he might not be able to compete in next weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix.

Red Bull, on the other hand, is among the few teams which has been capable of overcoming the aerodynamic occurrence this season, with its RB18 providing a much comfortable ride notwithstanding the becoming able to operate incredibly close to the ground. When questioned what he would do as team boss if one of his drivers was operating a vehicle with such violent porpoising, he responded, “Tell them to bitch as much as they possibly could over the radio and make as big an issue out of it as they possibly could.”
Christian Horner deems it unfair to penalise the teams that have been performing well
Any possible health transformation could result in higher coaster heights or even a dramatic aerodynamic revamp, because the latter would be a long-term fix. Horner responded when asked if he would make modifications to the regulatory requirements if safety problems persisted: “They could always add a larger plank if they wanted.”
“The easiest thing is obviously to raise the car so a team has a choice to do that. You have a choice where you run your car and you should never run a car that is unsafe. But I think that is more for the technical guys because there are certain cars that have some issues and certain cars with very few issues,” added the Red Bull team principal.
“It would seem unfair to penalise the ones who have done a decent job versus the ones who have perhaps missed the target slightly,” concluded Horner in terms of achieving the target, yet still getting penalised.
