Sergio Perez, the Red Bull F1 driver, has endured one of the most challenging seasons of his F1 career during the ongoing 2023 campaign. He has not been able to come anywhere near the might of Max Verstappen, but amidst his poor run, Christian Horner has backed him to hold on to his second place in the Drivers Championship.

The Red Bull Team Principal ardently believes that Sergio Perez has enough races this year to achieve great results and help the Milton-Keynes-based team achieve its first-ever 1-2 finish in the Drivers Championship. Red Bull has never been able to achieve this feat but has a golden chance this year with Verstappen and Perez.

While backing the Mexican driver for the remainder of the campaign, Horner recently said, “He came close last year, it would be his best-ever result, and he’s got the best car that he’s ever had to be able to try and achieve that result. Japan was frustrating and difficult for him, but he’ll bounce back. I’m sure there’s enough races with the six grands prix remaining for him still to achieve some great results between now and the end of the season.”

It’s something that we’ve never achieved; we’ve never finished first and second with any of our drivers in the world championship so it would be a big thing for us to achieve.” Horner has made it clear that finishing 1-2 in the 2023 standings is a major objective for them. Moreover, they have shown faith in their abilities to help them achieve their target.

Sergio Perez is in desperate need of good results in the upcoming races

While Christian Horner has backed Sergio Perez for solid performances in the remaining races of the 2023 F1 season, the latter has struggled massively in 2023. Perez has not been able to get to grips with the mighty RB19, and his Japanese GP outing was a prime example of the problems he has faced this year. He desperately needs a clean run of consistent performances.

As things stand, Perez is in a fight with Mercedes’s Lewis Hamilton for the second place in the Drivers Championship. The Mexican has so far managed 223 points, but the former 7-time world champion is not too far behind. He has also managed 190. With six races remaining, the Brit will do everything he can to knock Perez out of the P2 slot.

Considering everything that has been discussed above, the limelight is going to be on Sergio Perez to come up with the goods and prove to the F1 paddock that he still is a top-notch F1 driver. Red Bull has backed him for a solid run of performances in the remaining races, and several eyes will be on him during next month’s Qatart weekend.
