Sergio Perez joined Red Bull in 2021, to partner Max Verstappen at Red Bull. The Mexican had a successful career until joining the Milton Keyes outfit, even winning a race in Sakhir 2020, so was expected to do well against Verstappen.

However, Perez has been severely outmatched by his Dutch teammate every step of his career with Red Bull, never being able to compete with him. Red Bull chief Christian Horner warned Perez about trying to go up against the ‘generational talent’ of Max Verstappen, deeming it extremely challenging to do so.

We know what Checo’s capable of, he know what the expectations are – and he’s driving against a generational talent. And that is tough.
Christian Horner said, as reported by racefans.net

Perez had a strong start to the 2023 season, winning two of the first four races. The rest of the season was a downhill slope, with Perez unable to appropriately perform in qualifying, and not driving up to the mark on race days either. Perez’s seat may be at risk, Horner saying Perez’s seat is ‘his to lose’ for 2025.

Sergio Perez needs an optimal 2024 season to secure his career

Sergio Perez’s aspirations were set sky-high in 2023. Regrettably for him, he could only secure victory in two races this year, a far cry from the astounding nineteen triumphs achieved by Max Verstappen. Consequently, Sergio Perez found himself relegated to being the second driver to the Dutchman during the latter part of the season.

Even so, Perez is undeterred and resolute in his quest for the championship in the upcoming season. The Mexican driver aims to combat Verstappen while also recognizing that consistent performances are essential for a Red Bull contract extension. Christian Horner has emphasized the team’s repeatedly that Red Bull will be keeping their options open for 2025.

2024 will be a major year for Perez. The 33-year-old must deliver a stellar campaign to silence the media’s criticism of him and secure his position with the team. The 2024 campaign will be a challenging one though, as aspirants for the Red Bull seat will be fighting hard to earn the spot, while rivals fight equally hard to converge the field.
