Christian Horner joined Red Bull in 2005 and has been their only manager. Recently on ESPN’s Unlapped Podcast, Horner opened up on how his counterparts have changed over the years as the sport has progressed. Horner said managers are now more inclined towards the technicalities rather than embracing their entrepreneurial side.

He also discussed past personalities like Ron Dennis, Flavio Briatore, Jean Todt, and Bernie Ecclestone. He said that these managers were fiercely protecting their team during the managers’ meetings. He said that he and Toto Wolff are the last managers still familiar with the old ways of going about things.

“There’s more managers there and it’s gotten much more technical than the entrepreneurial side. So I suppose Toto and myself are perhaps two of the more ‘dinosaur’ type of characters compared to some. The dynamic and the definition of what a team principal is these days is very different to when I first came into this post,” Horner is quoted by Racefans.com.

Red Bull has won all 12 races so far this season. The Milton-Keynes-based team is on its way to bagging another WDC title with Max Verstappen and the Constructors title. Horner recently told ESPN that the mentality of their squad is the reason they have reached their current position.

Horner said that everyone in the team loves to win and that even during their difficult years, they did not lose their focus on what their aim was. He claimed that Red Bull’s motivation has never been higher.

“I think the secret to success is the culture that flows throughout the business. We obviously had some difficult years… but nobody lost focus on what the target was, what the goal was and what the ambition was. I’ve never seen motivation higher on the campus,” said Horner.

Red Bull has been functioning flawlessly this season. They grabbed the fastest pit stop time in Hungary of an impressive 1.98 seconds, which is the best this season. With their star driver Max Verstappen being on the top of the WDC standings with 314 points, only the question of ‘when’ remains on him bagging his third world championship.
