Christian Horner claims Lewis Hamilton should not be seen as the ‘prima donna’ at Mercedes

When Lewis Hamilton had stepped into Mercedes at the start of the 2014 F1 season, he was already a highly sought-after racer having spent six years at McLaren with one Championship title as well. There were several critics who questioned Lewis’ choice to become a Silver Arrows racer when there was the team with the most F1 Constructors’ titles in history (Ferrari) as well as the team that brought endless glory to Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull) to pick from. But with his back to back World Championship wins with Mercedes, Lewis silenced all those who doubted him.
Lewis Hamilton has achieved incredible feats at Mercedes, and thus he is quite close to the team. Having spent about a decade with them, he has become great friends with his Boss Toto Wolff. And he recently signed another contract renewal to continue his quest for an eighth World Championship with the Silverstone team. But Lewis’ rival team boss Christian Horner from Red Bull believes the Briton gets many advantages that are not metted out to his teammate George Russell.
While speaking at a recent podcast interview, Christian Horner talked about how Max Verstappen indeed enjoys some perks because he is the marqueé racer at Red Bull. But then, he also said that the situation has to be the same with Lewis.
I think the same with Lewis Hamilton. He’s now the most successful driver of all time. He will have more sway within his team than his team-mate because his value to the team is significantly greater. Lewis Hamilton has always been admired by many for his versatility. Not only is he one of the best Formula 1 racers to have ever entered the sport, but he is also a global figure because of his other ventures. In other news, Lewis Hamilton recently turned 39 and Victoria’s Secret model Irina Shayk wished him on his birthday. Even though the Briton has passed the age when most F1 drivers retire, he still has shown no signs of slowing down. He will be back to the grind in 2024 where he will aim for his record-breaking eighth World Championship. It remains to be seen if Lewis is successful on his quest for the eighth World title or if he has to relegate to another season without a single Grand Prix win after 2022 and 2023.
