Red Bull drivers Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez appear to be getting along very well. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner describes the two drivers’ relationship as the strongest he has ever witnessed at the Austria-based racing team.

In an interview last month, Horner stated that Perez and Verstappen are not pals. That, according to the Briton, is inconceivable because in Formula One, you are evaluated purely on your performance in comparison to your teammate. Nonetheless, Horner believes Verstappen and Perez have an amazing bond in every way. In his lengthy tenure at Red Bull, the Briton has never witnessed such a positive driver partnership.

While at the same time, Horner appears to understand why. Perez has grown into a much better match for the team over the last year. “This year not everything is new for him. And of course because of Covid last year – the last part of last year – he couldn’t even walk freely around the factory and meet people. It was a very strange introduction. I think he is more relaxed now,” said Horner.

Horner observes that the team’s second driver is more comfortable with his technicians. “And his relationship with Max is the best we have ever seen in all our driver combinations,” concluded the British team principal.

In addition this time, Horner acknowledges that Perez’s faith in winning the championship this season has resulted in a new interplay in the team. A miscalculated on-track brawl could charge the Red Bull drivers their lives. Horner was harsh on Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo following their collision in Baku in 2018.
