Max Verstappen and Red Bull dominated Formula 1 this year. The Dutch driver had a historic season with several new records to his name. On the other hand, Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez struggled to match the three-time world champion. However, Red Bull team boss Christian Horner has made it clear that the two drivers had the same machinery throughout the season.

Perez had a difficult time with the Red Bull RB-19 for the majority of the 2023 season. The Mexican driver even failed to make it to the top 10 in Qualifying on multiple occasions. While Max Verstappen had a successive run this year. This made fans and critics question if Checo even had the same car as his world-champion teammate. Christian Horner reaffirmed that the two Red Bull cars have always been identical in every aspect.

We always field the most competitive cars that we can, there's never a difference between the two cars.
Christian Horner said on the Sky Sports F1 podcast (H&T: Racingnews365)

Horner reckoned that being Max Verstappen’s teammate is simply a tough ask. The Briton claimed that the 26-year-old was perhaps the best driver on the current grid with incredible pure pace which made it difficult for any driver to match the Dutchman.

He's [Max Verstappen] a machine, he is arguably [or] certainly the best driver currently in Formula 1 as a three-time World Champion. To be his team-mate is incredibly tough.

Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez to go head-to-head in 2024

Max Verstappen would be looking to continue his historic run in F1 next season. The Dutch driver would be looking to bag his fourth consecutive world title in 2024 with Red Bull. While Sergio Perez is optimistic about his championship prospects against the three-time world champion.

Red Bull has focused on the 2024 challenger for the past few months in a bid to continue to enjoy a pace advantage next year. This would likely put the two Red Bull drivers in prime position for the world title again next season. As such, Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez would be willing to battle it out for the championship.

Certainly, it would be interesting to see whether Sergio Perez could pose a challenge to Max Verstappen in 2024. The 33-year-old is determined to make a mark after a woeful campaign this year. However, it remains to be seen if Verstappen will face stiff competition from his teammate for the championship next season.
