The 2023 Singapore GP qualifier was filled with drama and excitement right from the start. However, the end result wasn’t exactly what Christian Horner had expected. Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll lost his rear and put his car into the barrier, delaying Q2 quite a bit. McLaren, Ferrari, and Mercedes all looked like they had the pace to match Red Bull throughout the weekend so far.
Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez both failed to make it out of Q2 and shocked the whole paddock. While Max starts the race in 11th place, Sergio is a bit behind the Dutchman, as he qualified in 13th. Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz is on pole position, with Charles Leclerc in P3. The top nine on the grid are less than a second away from each other, demonstrating how close a qualifying session it was.
Red Bull team boss Christian Horner shared details on this mysterious result. “It’s very very confusing to have dropped the amount of pace we have. The car is not responding to changes – understeer, oversteer, braking issues,” Horner told Sky Sports F1. “A lot for us to understand tonight to try and turnaround and it will be very, very tough for us to make good progress tomorrow but we will be trying very hard,” he continued.
Red Bull could lose their winning streak at the Singapore GP
Red Bull has been phenomenal when it comes to their car’s performance this year. With maximum reliability, they have been able to extract every inch of performance that has helped Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez win every race this season. Verstappen broke the consecutive win record held by Sebastian Vettel in Monza as he won his 10th race in a row.
However, the Singapore GP isn’t looking very good for Max Verstappen and Red Bull. With Ferrari, McLaren, and Mercedes showing impressive performances throughout the weekend, the chances of Red Bull bagging a win at the Marina Bay circuit are slim. It will be interesting to see what happens. Sunday’s race is going to be grueling for the cars and the drivers too.
