Sergio Perez has struggled throughout the course of the 2023 F1 season. The Mexican driver has failed to even come close to teammate Max Verstappen. This has led to speculation regarding Checo’s future at Red Bull despite having a contract for next season. Now, Team Principal Christian Horner has given a clear answer about Perez’s stay at Milton Keynes.
Horner was convinced that Sergio Perez would be racing for Red Bull in 2024. The Briton pointed out that Checo would only be absent if he was injured or unfit to race. This had been the case for AlphaTauri’s Daniel Ricciardo as the Australian driver suffered a wrist injury at the Dutch GP earlier this season.
I am absolutely confident and clear that Checo will be our driver next year. Now, if he was injured or something like that, then they are circumstances beyond your control.
Christian Horner said as reported by RacingNews365
The Red Bull team boss claimed that the Austrian team intended to continue with Sergio Perez. The Briton pointed out that the line-up of both Red Bull and sister team AlphaTauri were definitive for next season. Additionally, Red Bull consultant Dr. Helmut Marko had made similar comments regarding Perez’s future at Milton Keynes.
But the clear intention is that he will continue here. We're planning to continue, we have announced the AlphaTauri drivers, we have our Red Bull drivers and that is how we intend to go racing in 2024.
Christian Horner claims Sergio Perez has a very thick skin
The Red Bull team boss was asked if Perez had felt disconnected from the team in light of rumors surrounding his future. Christian Horner claimed that it has had no impact in this regard as such speculation was simply not true. The Briton reckoned that Perez must’ve been affected to some extent. However, the Mexican driver has learned to deal with criticism in the media.

Horner pointed out that Sergio Perez has managed to bounce back after some disappointing results in the past. The Red Bull boss praised the 33-year-old for having a very thick skin. As such, the Briton believed that Checo would certainly get right back up from this massive performance slump despite facing backlash from fans and critics alike.
No tuve el mejor arranque y eso provocó que mis llantas se fueran en los duelos con Lewis y Russell, pero al final logramos buenos puntos.

Sergio Perez will be aiming to end the 2023 season on a high note. The 33-year-old has had a woeful campaign this year and scored less than half the number of points as compared to Max Verstappen. Although, it remains to be seen if the Mexican driver can solidify his place on the F1 grid for the long term with Red Bull.
