Max Verstappen’s race engineer gets compared with $130 million worth Hollywood action star Jason Statham by Red Bull team boss

Red Bull F1 team principal Christian Horner has multiple reasons to celebrate every weekend and this time, it’s not a different scenario either. After 44 laps of battling at Spa, Red Bull emerged victorious at the 2023 Belgian GP scoring a 1-2 finish with Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez respectively. During the race itself, there was a little bit of drama.
Max Verstappen and his race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase had a bit of a quarrel on the radio. The Dutchman went on to grab his eighth win in a row this season having grabbed a total of 10 wins in total. During the race, Max seemed unstoppable and his gap to the competitors just kept increasing. This is when he changed to soft tyres and asked if he could pit again to give the team some pitstop training.
During the race weekend, Max and GP had a quarrel on Friday too where they immediately settled the difference later on. Such is their relationship and Christian Horner vouched for the same while comparing GP with a hollywood star on F1TV. “GP is our Jason Statham. He’s a cool operator and he doesn’t take any messing about!” he said. “They are like an old married couple. Sometimes you think they need a bit counseling! But there is tremendous respect between the two of them,” he continued.

Max Verstappen and Gianpiero Lambiase go way back. When the Dutch phenomenon first joined Red Bull Racing, he was paired with Gianpiero Lambiase who became his race engineer. In an hilarious instance, GP was actually told that he would be Sebastian Vettel’s race engineer but got paired with this young hothead instead. Ever since then, the two have enjoyed massive success in the pinnacle of motorsport with Max already becoming a world champion twice.
The 2023 Belgian GP was filled with drama and mind bending overtakes. Christian Horner and Red Bull made history yet again as they have now become unstoppable having won 13 races in a row. The team has been unbeaten ever since the 2022 Abu Dhabi GP. It will be interesting to see how long they can keep this going.
