Sergio Perez was under pressure heading into the Brazilian GP weekend. The Mexican driver had failed to deliver expected results for Red Bull for a string of races in the past few weeks. However, Checo pulled off a great drive at Interlagos this weekend despite narrowly missing out on the podium. Now, Red Bull team boss Christian Horner has praised Perez’s efforts.

Horner believed that the 33-year-old had a stellar drive in the Sunday race at Interlagos. Although, the Briton pointed out that Perez’s mistake at Turn 2 led to Fernando Alonso getting the better of the Red Bull. Nevertheless, the Red Bull team boss mentioned that Sergio Perez did his best to get the most out of his car this weekend.

I thought Checo drove brilliantly well. He had a little bit of a wobble at Turn 2 which allowed Fernando, who was very quick on the straights, to have a go at him. He did his best to hang on to it

Moreover, Christian Horner was glad to see Perez outscore Lewis Hamilton by 12 points. The Mexican driver is currently second in the championship and must keep the seven-time champion at bay to secure the runner-up spot. The Briton believed that Checo had a strong weekend with some much-needed points to his name.

Sergio Perez has been struggling throughout the course of the 2023 season. The Mexican driver has faced immense backlash from critics and fans alike. The Red Bull team boss reckoned that the 33-year-old would feel more confident in the remaining two rounds of the season. As Perez managed to deliver an impressive drive at Interlagos.

Certainly, Sergio Perez would be glad with his performance at the Brazilian GP despite missing the podium spot. The Mexican driver might be able to get more out of himself in the last two rounds of this season. As such, fans would be looking forward to seeing how Checo performs in the coming weeks against Max Verstappen.
